I started taking pictures of landscapes and animals when I was 8 years old with my Dad’s Minolta SRT 101 camera in the 70’s, where I grew up in Delaware. I would get frustrated because the image of what was in my mind, of what I was shooting, never matched my final result, so the quest to master my camera was unleashed.

I took my first photography class in 8th grade, and also took every photography class in high school that I could. I got my first photography degree (associates in photography) from a small two year college in Maryland. Then, when applying to Art Center College of Design in Pasadena for advanced placement in their photography program, they refused to accept my prior degree because they “hadn’t heard of that college” I went to. So, I started over again to get a bachelors degree with honors in photography from ACCD in 1993.

Immediately upon graduating from Art Center, I assisted as many photographers as I could. This was when I discovered I loved food photography, and this would be about 1994. One of my assisting gigs led me into one of my first commercial assignments, shooting for a gourmet grocery store called Bristol Farms, every month for 5 years. I’ve been shooting food ever since.

I’ve done a lot of commercial work over my career, and over the years several art consultants found me, wanting to do special projects with them that would feed my love for fine art work. The commercial work helps to sell products for companies, which is fun. My fine art work can shift someone’s state of mind, which is an amazing honor. I love that more than anything else.
