Welcome to THE MINI FOODSCAPES SERIES
I’m so excited to announce my newest series, Mini FoodScapes. This series is using food for everything you see in the environments. The miniature figures, vehicles, and other accessories are all 1:87 scale. That means that they are 87 times smaller than real life - really small! I am using very special equipment to make many of these images feel like they are life size, when in fact the entire set is only about 24 inches square in dimension.
I will be adding to this page with each new Mini FoodScape that I make so check back often!
Brown Sugar Beach
I’ve always loved being on the water in summer time so when I started this series I knew I would be creating several waterscapes out of food somehow. These are the classic beach sounds that remind me of my childhood.
Ingredients:
Light colored sand is crushed graham cracker crumbs
Dark colored sand is brown sugar
Ocean water is a mixture of green, blue, and white glittered icing with some piping gel
White crashing waves are white icing gel and pieces of white cotton candy mixed in
Canoeing Down Piping Gel Creek
As a little girl, I loved the sounds of summer nights. I grew up in Delaware and we had a lot of critters flying around, chirping, and singing to us as soon as the sun started to set. Our summer nights were very warm and humid, the perfect stage for these very visual and vocal creatures.
Ingredients:
Creek is made from piping gel and several blue colors of gel icing
Trees are broccoli spears
Bushes are red kale and green curly kale
Distant mountains are romanesco cauliflower and purple cauliflower
The sandy shore line is actually a mixture of white and red quinoa, dried green lentils, and a little bit of coffee grounds thrown in there
Pink Onion Ski Resort
I actually grew up skiing. My parents went skiing in the Poconos in PA all the time. They would actually leave me to ski on my own on the bunny slope, which was really safe and very fun back then. I loved that sound the snow makes as it moved and crunched under the skis.
Ingredients:
Large pink onions for the hills
The snow is confectioners sugar
The green mountains are Napa cabbage
MT. ROMANESCO BASE CAMP
Rock climbing and mountaineering is one of those things I always wished I could do but just didn’t have the guts to do it. The views from the top are always so beautiful but what would you do if this happened to you?
Ingredients:
Foliage in the front, thyme leaves and red kale
The earth our friends are standing on is coffee grounds mixed with black pepper
The hiker resting on a bench is resting on purple cauliflower
The mountains are romanesco cauliflower
The vines coming down the cauliflower are thyme
